Description: This paper seeks to better understand how to ground apologies for Christian sexual morality in biological fact without diminishing the centrality of Jesus for the Christian life. It pursues this end through an examination of Thomas Aquinas’ apologetic method as he defends the moral necessity of marriage in Summa Contra Gentiles 3:122-126. The paper will focus on the ways in which Thomas takes a Creator as a given, and what parts of his method are and are not useful for the church in Australia today.
